Family owned. Built for families. Right here in Christiansburg.
Our story
The Valley Overstock is a family-owned business — and that family is us, Aaron and Katie Richards. We opened The Valley in 2023, right around the time we were preparing to welcome our first child. After years of Aaron working in education, we wanted to build something that let us grow our family on our terms while also doing something that mattered for the community we live in.
Around that same time, we learned how much perfectly good overstock big-box retailers were sending straight to landfills — seasonal rotations, overproduction, mispriced inventory, customer returns. It was cheaper for those companies to trash the stuff than to put it back on shelves. That felt wrong to both of us. So we built a place to rescue it.
Our vision
Our vision is simple: be the place families in the New River Valley turn to when they want quality products at honest prices — and keep tons of perfectly good stuff out of landfills doing it. We're not chasing trends. We're not trying to be the biggest. We're building something Christiansburg can count on.
Real prices.
Curated finds.
What hits our floor each week is curated — not random. Every truck brings overstock from major retailers like Target, Home Depot, and Amazon: furniture, home goods, clothing, baby essentials, cleaning supplies, and the everyday extras that keep a household running. We sort it. We organize the bins. We price it so families can actually afford it. And we save tons of perfectly good product from a landfill in the process.
Different on purpose.
Most bin stores treat the chaos as part of the model — fast turnover, messy floors, dig-through-the-pile vibes. We don't. We built The Valley so you'd feel comfortable walking in, comfortable bringing your kids, and comfortable taking your time. The deals are real. So is the welcome.
You'll usually find one of us — or someone we trust on our team — working the floor. We know the inventory because we stock it ourselves. If you're looking for something specific, or curious about what just came off a truck, ask. We'll tell you what we know.
Thanks for being part of what we're building here. The Valley exists because Christiansburg shows up for it — and we don't take that for granted.
